travel hong kong to hainan to vietnam

Hi there,
Im in china at the moment and will be heading to Hong Kong in a few days. Want to head to Vietnam from Hong Kong, and have seen the island of Hainan in the guide book. Just wondering if anyone knows what options there are for getting from HK to Hainan, and prices? And also for getting from Hainan to Vietnam? Also, if this proves too expensive, what options are there for just getting from HK to Vietnam? Have looked into the train HK to Guangzou to Nanning to the place on the border, and looks a bit of a nightmare?

There're direct buses for Hong Kong -- Nanning, where you can then make your way to Vietnam quite easily.
Apart from the obvious (and expensive) flight for Hong Kong -- Hainan, you could also take a train/bus/ferry to Guangzhou and train Guangzhou -- Haikou/Sanya.
If you're looking for a more "interesting" route from Hainan to Vietnam, you could fly Tiger Airways Haikou -- Singapore and then Singapore -- Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City.

From Hanan you may look for Hydrofoil Boat from Hainan to Halong Bay then to continue your trip (2 more days) enjoying Halong bay kayyaking in turqoise sea, them get bus to Hanoi (5hrs) (!)

Are you sure there's boat service from Hainan to Vietnam? I was quite sure that there wasn't.

!! Be warned that "students" who want to practice English with you may actually be scammers. In Shanghai they try the Tea Ceremony Scam. In Beijing it's the Art Student Scam. Be very wary if a stranger wants to speak English with you, especially if you are in a tourist area. !!
