Which island to choose!!

I am due to fly to KL in 6 weeks time. I have a few days shopping in KL then have around a week to make my way to meet a friend in Bangkok. As i have a week and haven't spent much time on the Thai beaches I am keen to find a nice beach, (not like Pattaya!) where i can just chill for a week. Ive already been to koh phangan for the parties and Im aware the weathers not going to be the best but I just want a week of R and R. I have the money (for a change) to spend on somewhere failry nice (£15 a nite) but i dont want to be isolated from other like minded backpackers. I also have the money to spend on domestic flights as i dont want to spend my week on a bus/boat! Some inevitabel bus journies are acceptable though!

Why not go to Songkhla town? The weather should be nice.

There's a beautiful beach, real Thai culture, and nice oceanview hotels that are very cheap (check asiarooms).

There's some good day trips up the coast, as well.

You can fly to Hat Yai from KL, and from Hat Yai to BKK....cheap (airasia).
