Hangzhou to Huangshan

Hi,

We're trying to get from Xian to Huangshan. We leave tomorrow on a train to Hangzhou and arrive in Hangzhou around 9:30 in the morning. From there, we've been told to take a bus to Huangshan and that it will take about 2 hours. Does anyone know the easiest way to get to the bus station from the train station, and which bus station we are supposed to go to? We are planning on staying in Tunxi, so that we can visit some of the nearby villages, like Xidi.

Thanks!!!

The most comfy way to arrive in Huangshan is as follow: take 2 hours train to shanghai, from Shanghai, take a overnight train (Hard sleeping berth is OK) to Huangsha. You will arrive in Tunxi next morning. It's mountainous region in Anhui, so take a bus is not very comfortable. You can download a china rail map and a map of Anhui from chinatourmap.com This will help you know where are you in China.
Good Luck!

No, there's a fine expressway these days so Hangzhou to Tunxi is perfectly comfortable by bus, though two hours sounds a bit short for the journey.

Ignore #1 - Shanghai is in the opposite direction !!

You need to go to the west bus station in Hangzhou - 2 years ago it took about 5-6 hours but they were building a new motorway.

Yes, avoid #1's suggestion. As you can see on a map, Shanghai is in the opposite direction.

When you get to the Hangzhou train station, get a taxi to the West Bus Station (Qiche Xizhan). It will take about 20 minutes to get there and cost about 25rmb. When you get to the West Bus Station, there are buses leaving every 30 minutes for Huang Shan. Try to get a bus directly to Tangkou (Huangshan Base - 3 hours from Hangzhou). More frequent buses go to Tunxi (Huangshan City, 2.5 hours from Hangzhou). The new highway is completed and you are on a highway for 99% of the trip.

Hangzhou -- Huangshan in 2 hours seems a bit too short. Better reckon on about 2.5-3 hours to get to Huangshan city (aka Tunxi) and then another 1-1.5 hours to get to Tangkou.
If you're going to climb Huangshan and see the sunrise then most probably you'll need to stay at the summit area unless you plan on climbing in the dark.
Staying at Tunxi is fine if you're going to explore the surrounding villages.
Cheers!

Yes there are a lot of buses that go from Hangzhou to Tunxi, at least 7 per day mostly in the morning. Price is about ~70 - 80rmb.

But in almost all cases it is faster just to take a bus directly from Hz to Huangshan base (Tangkou)

What time is the last bus that goes from Huangshanshi to Hangzhou?

Any recommendations for a reasonably priced hotel/hostel at the summit for 3 people?
