Easy to find travellers for Lhasa-Kailash-Lhasa?

I have been dreaming about going out to Kailash. I will be travelling alone in Sept and would like to find others to do this with, but need to go back to Lhasa after the trek, not down to Nepal. I think travelling down to Nepal is most common and am concerned I may not find people. I was in Tibet years ago and had trouble finding jeep-mates. Anyone know how common or uncommon it is for people to return to Lhasa?

Also, wondering when hiring a jeep in Lhasa with one of the standard agencies, do you get food, cook and camping equipment (and potentially a porter) or do you need to supply all of that and they just provide the driver?

Hi,

I was wondering if you would like to join my friend. I am trying to find people to join him to a 15 Days Tibet/Nepal/Bhutan on October 2007. He signed up in this website:

15-day Tibet/Nepal/Bhutan Trip

The company name is Adventures Within Reach, do a search in google for this company, and then look for Himalayan Combo #3.

Thanks for the reply. Doesn't sound like that trip is aligned with my locations. I can not open their site for some reason but do they start and end in Lhasa? Do they actually trek Kailash - 15 days for all of that seems extremely brief.

If you look at this branch from time to time, you will know that it should not be difficult to find partner(s) for that trip. Send private messages to those that ask here, look around signboards when in Lhasa.
I (German, 65 , male, experienced traveler, some Chinese speaking ) want to do much the same tour in LATE September, and so far I have got the addresses of 4 people with the same sort of interest. - Nothing is settled so far, no bookings made, but we all share that common goal of traveling from Lhasa to Kailash area in late September. So there will be enough people around to make a group and to share transport costs and - if the current situation prevails - the necessities for guide. Just let me know: Shall I put you on that list and keep you informed ? Please reply by pm.

as to your further questions, just remember: Where there might be a demand there will be a supply.

It's not difficult to find partners if you are compromising, never fix your schedule or itinerary, also budget.

hi there,

Dont worry! It is pretty easy to find people to go there with you. I did it last year. It took us 14 days.

Actually the agent will provide you the 4x4 , the driver and the guide(if they inisist you need a guide). There are guesthouses and restaurant on the way to Kailash. No worry.

The worst one we came across did not have a toilet. You may end up paying for a hot shower in some small towns on the way.

When you are having your holy trek around Kailash, accomodation can be found too, but dont expect too much.

It seemed that camping is not popular in the tourist industry in Tibet. If you saw some guys camping in Mt. Kailash, they are mostly organised tour from Nepal or India.

I am afraid going straight to Nepal will cost you less time and money and most people will do in one direction. You will find most people will go from Lhasa to Nepal other than returning to Lhasa.

There are heaps of people having the same dream as yours in Lhasa. The simpliest way to find them is to post your plan in the notice board in the hotels, or you can read their notes posted.

No worry! The only thing you shouldn't do is never scream fxxx tibet there. That will cost you trouble. Some Australians guys did that last year, and their trip in Tibet ended right away.

Cheers!
