In Guangzhou, how to get ticket for Beijing to Ulaanbaatar?

Hey everyone,

I haven't taken a train in China since July of last year when I visited Yunnan for a couple of weeks. I also don't speak Chinese.

Basically, I'm planning a trip to Mongolia. I'm in Guangzhou right now. I need to book a train ticket from Guangzhou to Beijing, but before I do that I need to book the train ticket for Beijing to Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) to be sure that I can get a ticket before I go to Beijing.

Is it possible to book this train trip from Guangzhou? Or do I need to go to Beijing first in order to book the ticket? Is it one (or two) train(s) that go per week from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar?

Has anyone done this trip before? I'm bringing some valuables with me (notebook computer), because I have no other choice. :( What class on the train should I get for relative comfort and safety. I really don't remember much about Chinese trains, because I only took it one time a year ago, and before my Chinese friend helped me book the ticket.
