Book tour before getting to Tibet?

Hi-

I'm traveling in Tibet by myself and so with the current permit situation it seems that I will have to join a tour if I want to travel outside of Lhasa. I will be in Kham for the months of June and July, but wanted to travel to Mt. Kailash. Should I book a tour before I get into Tibet or is it pretty easy to book one from Lhasa? Also is it less expensive to book when you get there? Any help would be appreciated.

I would wait until you get to Lhasa to make arrangements to go to Kailash. Check the message boards at popular guesthouses to find a seat available in a 4WD heading out there.

hi there,

#1 is correct, if you book before you go, that will cost you a lot. Be prepare to pay 1000-1200 RMB a day for the driver and the 4x4 vehicle if you got a tour group in Lhasa.

Last year it cost me 3500 RMB for a 14 days trip from Lhasa to Kailash and then Nepal border.

cheers!
