i've just got a visa for pakistan, and i'm a lone female traveller haeding through china and down the kkh.

however, i applied for my visa in my home country, which makes a huge difference. chinese nationals or other nationalities registered as resident in china have no probs getting visas in beijing, but you may find it hard if you're just passing through china, probably the best thing to do is to contact the pakistani consulate in beijijng direct - google them and you'll find it no probs, they're really helpful.

couldn't get a concrete answer regarding the landing permit when i asked - they do exist apparently, but no-one seemed to know a thing about them. the best bet from what i can gather is to apply fo the visa direct - more expensive but then you know for sure that you can visit pakistan without problems on the border - very costly if you absolutely have to travel through pakistan as again, from what i can gather, visas are only available in bejijng.

there are seveal different types of visa - i'm going through pakistan for a few weeks, and then back for a longer stay but will need two separate 3-month tourist visas as i have no pakistani sponsor and am not on an organised trip. you can get dual and multiple-entry valid for a year if you have the right recommendations from pakistan.

alternatively you could go through tibet on the new train if the pakistani visa proves impossible, head through nepal as it's just a case of paying on the border for a visa, and pick up a pakistani visa in delhi.
