Beijing where to stay

I'm looking for an place in Beijing to hang around for a week. A bit like
Paharganj (main bazar) in New Delhi. Would be the Sanlitun area a good place?
Could anybody recomend a hotel?

Sanlitun used to be Beijing's bar center but it seems that it has been replaced by the bar area near Houhai nowadays. Houhai is a big lake, and all the bars located at the lakesides. It's good. But if you are looking for some characteristic tiny bars, Nanluo Guxiang Hutong is highly recommended.

For hotel? Don't rely on LP, they had deal with those who listed on book, try hostelworld(dot)com which is more objective.

I think the Silk Market is a good place for shopping. You can check the hotels on http://english.ctrip.com/ and http://www.elong.net/.

I would like help you if need more information for China.
