Mixed child citizenship question

Hi!

Hi!

We're expecting a child in a few months, wife is chinese and i'm french.

Birth is expected in France, but it's unclear where we're going to live and our child will likely be spending quite a bit of time in Shenzhen.

I understand China doesn't accept the dual nationality yet many chinese hold on their chinese passport once they get a second nationality.

Any practical advice on how to make it sustainable? What would be the most convenient way to go during the first few years for our child to live easily either in France or in China, without going through time consuming visa applications?

Thanks for all input
Luis

Without knowing the French system, I would say get the French passport and go through the ma fan of chinese visas each time you need to. There is a reason that all my students and their parents of chinese background have foreign passports! (not just so they can attend international schools, but that should be one reason to consider the French passport as well). Freedoms that being a lao wai in China bring would certainly outweigh the visa hassles! Those that need to, go to Hong Kong every year for visa renewal. Living in Shenzhen, that wouldn't be too much of a problem.

Yes, it seems the easiest way.

Yet i'm still wondering how chinese citizens manage to keep dual nationality practically as I heard they do after getting a western passport following emigration to those same western countries. French citizenship for our child is definetely a must for the freedom it gives one to travel worldwide, but chinese citizenship couldn't hurt as a plus.

I need to check further, but would suspect many laws linked to ownership of real estate and companies would be better for a local citizen. Not quite sure though, we still have a few months to make up our mind
