Travel to Lhasa I need help

Dear
I'm heading for Beijing tomorrow, I've booked from air China a package including Lhasa from Xian.
I was booking one permit, but was canceled .
I have booked hotel reservation in Lhasa.
I've tried to book a tour 3 days and they offer 500 Us$ only for the permit and Lhasa tour it is too expensive to me.
Some one would suggest the possible and economic way to realize my dream : to visit Lhasa before I dye?
Would be very frustating to come back China without a visiting planed , expent money.
Any suggestion would be very important
Many thanks in addvance

If you can fly to Chengdu there are quite a few travel agencies there who can arrange for you to 'join' a group, only officially. In Lhasa you can carry on with your own plans. It certainly won't be $500 or anywhere near that! The Traffic Hotel is a good place to stay and there is a travel agency within the hotel.

Better check on that info above. New rules now exist entering Tibet.

Ready to go on a moments notice anywhere the wind blows.

Have a great time. You'll get it sorted out over there and it will be MUCH cheaper. Let us know when you get back!!!

Much cheaper if you organize your excursions in Lhasa itself. #2 and #4 are on the mark here. There has been a lot of talk on these boards about tighter restrictions on Tibet travel in recent times. If you get to Lhasa you can check out the bulletin boards at some of the hotels (e.g. Yak Hotel or Kirey Hotel) you may be able to link up with others trying to form a group for excursions.
