Flight advice, please: Hong Kong/Lhasa/Shanghai

We are heading to Tibet from Hong Kong in early July. I am used to looking at airline sites but this route loses me! Our agent is recommending a route:

Day one - HOng Kong - Xi an Xianyang on Dragon Air
then onto Lhasa on China Eastern Airlines. With an hour between flights.

Returning several days later:

Lhasa to Chongquing on Air China International then new flight to Du Pong airport (I assume this is Shanghai) Just over an hour between flights.

We are very experienced travellers but changing carriers with minimal time frays the nerves.

Has anyone with greater experience in airline sites in China any alternative (aka less fraught) suggestions, please?

I should have added that any advice on direct routes is more what we want.

the big issue with most domestic carriers (which doesn't include Dragonair) - is they are often late and delayed in leaving.

if you want to book your own tickets, you can start with elong.com, ctrip.com or yoee.com

I think take a soft sleeping train to Lhasa is better. Because you have to get used to the climate of Tibet. You can check the Tibet train schedule from chinatourmap.com , It's easier to get trian tickets from Chongqing or Chengdu, Xiling. Then from Lhasa, you can fly to Shanghai.

I thought the train cabin is pressurized just like in the airplane, which makes no difference then as you arrive at Lhasa.
