Boston to Washington DC

WHat would be the best way to go from Boston to Washington DC?

Any train to go there? How long does it take and how much?

Is it possible to go in a one day tour from Boston?

Thanks.

You might find a cheap flight from Boston to the Washington DC area. Check kayak.com, maybe JetBlue or someone will have a special. Don't rule out flying to BWI (Baltimore-Washington Airport) - there is public transportation to downtown DC (bus connects to subway). If you take an early flight you could certainly see the monuments and do walk-bys of the Capitol and White House before heading back to Boston, but spending any meaningful time at the Smithsonian Museums or doing tours would be difficult.

Doa littleMapquesting first to find out the mileage between cities. That should give you an idea of the travel times. I would not even bother with a one day tour by air, either. Enjoy where you are staying in the first place.

Is it possible to start the day in Boston, get to Washington, have enough time to visit enough things to make the cost of the visit worthwhile, then be back in Boston that same day? In other words,

No.

Yes, I'm not sure we understand your question. Do you want to know if you can leave Boston in the morning, get to Washington, do a tour of the city, then get back to Boston, all in one day!? The answer is yes, but it willbe a long day and you will be tired! You should catch a flight at like 7am!

Boston and Washington DC are both big cities, so you can fly (there are often shuttles probably every hour? And the flight is a little over and hour I think). Both cities are a short drive to the airport from the center of downtown, too, so you won't waste a lot of time doing that. I think you should be able to get a roundtrip flight for under $200. Maybe less?

You can also take the train, but you won't be able to do all this in 1 day obviously, because it takes about 7 hours on the train.

Visit Amtrak's website - it is very good and easy to use.

take the fung wah 'chinatown' bus.. from boston to nyc is 15 dollars and 4 hours, and right where it drops you off in nyc you can catch a bus to dc for probably about the same price. it'll take all day but it's cheap!

If you decide to do it, it only pays to fly into Reagan/Nation (DCA). If you fly into Dulles or Baltimore, you'll spend all your time getting to and from the airport. Won't be cheap.

Why do new posters (#9) keep bringing up old posts to advise people who have already come and gone?

HA! The old posts (#9) benefits me who will be a visitor real soon. But for heaven's sake, I didn't discover this thread even when used the forum search toggle. It came up on google result.
