Allergy medicine

Spring is here and so is my hay fever, and now I'm about to run out of my allergy medicine. Does anyone know the Chinese names of any of the common antihistamines? I would love to be able to find Allegra (fexofenadine) but Claritin, Benadryl, or anything else would be great, too.

I've asked some Chinese friends but they just tell me to drink more tea. :)

Some of the traditional Chinese medicines may work on you. I also can get hayfever (continual sneezing and watering eyes). Found some of the TCM reasonably effective (but not as good as western ones though).

If there is no food, isn't that food for thought?
And if you are bored and want to know more about our Chinese teaching experience, there is our website to read.

Hi,
I were in Beijing and Tianjn until a week ago and I bought medecin (voltaren0 for inflamation), they even had the same brand (Novartis) and alternitives. I think you will get proper help if you walk in to a pharmacy in China. They are educated and will probably know the substances your mentioned. The also have substance dictionaries (called "fass" in Sweden), and will be able to give you exactly what you want. But you are maybe in a rural areas where no pharmacys exist, then you should try the tea.

Good luck !

I also had desparate need for antihistamines while in Hong Kong for some nasty mossie bites (of course, the pills I had shlepped from home were in my hotel room over on Lamma Is.), and through my indicating the bites, and receiving sympathetic responses, ended up with something that worked.

I agree with #2, ie. just go into a pharmacy and ask for some!

Claritin is called 开瑞坦 (kai rui tan). It's easy to get in pharmacies.

There is very good nose spray that clears up your stuffy nose etc. Just sniff vigorously and mime squirting something up your nose and they usually get the hint. The liquid is brown and nasty, but it works SO fast and effectively.

cheers from Ruth

Hi everyone. I wanted to thank you all for the help and replies - I haven't been able to sign on now for a few days, but I wanted to acknowledge the help. I'm making a trip to the pharmacy as soon as I can!
