Killing time at PEK (Beijing Airport)

Looking for advice for killing time near Beijing airport between my flight from Guilin to Beijing and my flight home to the US.

My flight options from Guilin arrive in Beijing at either:

11:45am (China Southern 3281)
2:10pm (Air China 1312)
4:20pm (Hainan Airlines 7216)

My flight to the US on Air China is at 8:30pm...so that gives me upto 6.5 hours layover before needing to check-in at 6:30pm (2 hrs prior to flight time).

I am assuming a trip into Beijing (60-90 min each way) would not be worth it and I will have already spent five days in Beijing a week earlier, so is there anything interesting to do near Beijing airport for six hours? Or am I better off taking the latest possible flight on Hainan Airlines and wasting an hour or two at the airport? (Is Hainan OK? Are they any more delay-prone than China Southern or Air China?)

Thanks,
Tim

Hi,

you can use the nice swimming pool at the Sino-Swiss Hotel, around 4 km from the airport (http://www.sino-swisshotel.com/english/index.htm).

Another option is going to Huairou and visiting a famous temple.

It's probably not worth it to try and go in the city. A couple of hours to kill isn't too bad - but I'm one of those weirdos who likes airports and people watching.

Don't forget that you have to go through passport control as you leave, and that can take a long time depending on the lines. I also have my checked luggage hand searched (in my presence) each time I leave, which adds to my departure time. Maybe I look suspicious!

China Southern is known as one of the worst domestic airlines in China, Air China and Hainan are both OK though. If I were you I'd take the latest flight possible and then just hang out at BJ airport. its not fun or anything but you cant really go into town anyway. thats just the way things work out when travelling.

Hainan Airlines would be my top choice for any domestic flight. Plus it saves you twiddling your thumbs for long in Beijing. Go for that one.
Cheers!
