URGENT need contact details for mai sot hospital

Hi,

Does anyone know the phone number for the mai sot hospital ?

My girlfriend was bitten on the foot by a snake today (05 May) in Mai Sot and was taken to the hospital. I spoke to her on the phone and she was in quite a bit of pain and the swelling was up to her knee. As it was dark when she was bitten (she was bitten on the street on the way back from dinner) the doctors do not know what kind of snake it was and so can give her general treatment only. They are keeping her in overnight.

HER BATTERY HAS NOW RUN OUT ON HER MOBILE AND WE HAVE NO WAY OF CONTACTING HER OR THE HOSPITAL.

She has told us that there are English speaking staff and doctors at the hospital. If we can get hold of the phone number we will be able to check on her progress in the morning.

Just in case it is useful, her name is Lynsey Mitchell.

Thanks in advance.

Swasdee krup,

She was take to 'a clinic' first then on to the hospital.

Apparently, she is on a bed in the hall (as all the rooms are full of refugees from Myanma) so I'll try the hospital first thing. If not, the clinic sounds like a good place to be able to assist.

Its not that we can actually do much from here but I know she's upset/scared/sick etc and it can't help being on he other side of the world with no friends or family about. Unfortunaly, it was her first night in town and she had not met anyone yet either.

It must be a pretty tough experience she is going through right now - bitten by a mystery snake and alone in hospital with no family or friends nearby for support. I hope everything works out OK. If there is anyone reading this thread who is in the Mae Sot area, perhaps they can go and pay her a visit.

Snakes: Kill them ALL!! Don't believe the crap you see on National Geographic. Kill them on sight! That's why God gave us big sticks.

But seriously, and this in general to anyone who may end up in a similar situation: If your phone is a reasonably common brand then just ask to borrow a charger. Best just use Nokia phones, period; also for this reason.

I really hope someone can visit that poor girl. She must be terrified. By the way, where is Mai Sot? I want to make sure not to be heading there anytime soon! LOL!

#8 not everyone visiting Mae Sot gets bitten by a snake!

It's in the north-west of Thailand, next to the Burmese border.

You can contact the British Embassy in Bangkok and ask for their assistance in this matter. They should at least be able to make a few phone calls for you.

Carry a flashlight and use it at night in remote areas. My now ex-gf almost stepped on a banded krait a couple years back near that border. They hunt at night.

Thanks heaps for all the replies.

I just got off the phone with my girlfriend.

As Arraina correctly posted she has now checked out and is back at the guest house. Thanks so much for making that call by the way.

She had a crap night but is now feeling much better. Her foot is still massive due to swelling but is 1/2 the size it was last night and she is able to hobble around on it a bit. They gave her heaps of antibiotics and some great pain killers to help her along the way.

No doubt there will be a fair bit of rest ahead but she will be fine.

The owner of the guest house took her to the clinic then on to the hospital. She then checked in on her in the morning and came and picked her up again when she checked out. Whilst in the hospital she really got the idea she was being given extra special care because she had no-one to look after her. Everyone one else seems to have their whole family camped around their beds apparently.

The total of the hospital bill, including drugs, came to just over 300 B.

Another example of great Thai hospitality.

#6 - Good point. One I was thinking of also. She has a Nokia so that would not have been a problem. Our main concern was that her battery ran out whilst the swelling was still comming up and we did not have the contact details of the hospital. It would seem that my spelling mistake ('Mai' instead of 'Mae') didn't help with my google search.

Ta again for everyones concern and assistance
