It is now 44 baht/1 Euro and 33 baht for 1 Dollar (roughly same as the current 1.35 Euro/Dollar) so no real reason to bring dollars vs. Euro. Both are easy to exchange in Thailand at these approximate rates. There are many ATMs in Thailand (at the airport too) so an internationally accepted ATM card is usually the best way to get money (check your bank for charges on overseas transactions). There is not much need for travellers checks, but if you bring them I'd say American Express is the most acceptable type, but in Euros or Dollars it doesn't really matter. Also bring a Visa or Mastercard as a backup.

Bring your euros; they're easy to change. You don't need to pay twice for changing your money. Thai ATM machines almost all have Cirrus, Plus and Maestro (see what logos are on your ATM card). I don't bother anymore with traveler's cheques, but if you bring them, euros are fine, Amex or Thomas Cook.

ALWAYS bring your own currency, especially if it's a common, Western one.

NEVER exchange to some third currency like the US dolla!

Exactly.
If you do need US$ because you're visiting neighbouring countries buy them in T'land or get them there.

#1, #3 That's the dual exchange rate. You're both right. There's an inland and offshore exchange for the euro/baht right now. The baht is in short supply outside the country due to the government exchange curbs, so its price is higher offshore.

that would mean you change twice! if you really need dollars (for Laos etc.), buy them in €-land

get it while u can

Correct, I just didn't want to go into details.
In Cambodia he'd get them from an ATM at the interbank exchange rate. I exchanged 50EUR into US$ last week at a money changer at 1,33 UD$/ EUR, they were quoting 1,36 on the news channels and I thought that was pretty good.
