Tibet travel info from Leos Hostel

I just received the following response from Leo's about booking train tickets to Lhasa.

"We have telephoned our permit agents. They have told us that foreign people cannot travel outside of the Lhasa area for now. This restriction should last for around 10 days.
We can start to book tickets and permits again around the 10th of May."

Hopefully this doesn't change for the worse. Anyone able to get train tickets booked in the last 2 days?

Regards,

Josh

They are now also saying they can only arrange tickets 4 days in advance. FYI

I am in Lhasa right now (Thursday, May 3) and indeed there is lots of craziness going around about the permits due to the EBC incident about ten days ago. My travel agent here in Lhasa has assured me he can get me one, but it will take 3 days. And you will need the Alien Travel permit listing every destination. A fellow traveler I met here in Lhasa has arranged a rather complex itinerary with a land rover and is really being forced to jump through hoops. Everybody you talk with has a different take on the situation, which may cool off and may not.
