cost of tibet permit

Hello all. Could someone tell me the approximate cost of a permit and train ticket to Tibet from Chengdu obtained through a guesthouse? I will be in Chengdu in mid to late June. I don't need exact cost but I need to see if Tibet travel will be within my budget.

I have just heard from a friend who was trying to make an overland journey from Kathmandu to Beijing. His plan was to get to Lhasa then take the train from Lhasa to Beijing.

However, he couldn't. Apparently a large bridge on the railway has been destroyed (???) and the railway is expected to be closed for the rest of the year.

I am desperately trying to find out more information about this, not because I plan on traveling on that train, but because this could have huge political implications.
This should be in the news, but it's not, potentially for obvious reasons.

If anyone knows or hears anything else, please reply or email me at vanchuck@gmail.com

Cheers

We recently travelled by train from Chengdu to Lhasa and Sims added 400Y to the cost of the train ticket. This was to cover the permit, 30Y worth of food to take on train and 20Y towards the first nights accommodation in Lhasa. So, sorry, have no idea how much for permit or their commission.
If you email them, they'll tell you costs plus when they can start trying to get tickets. They dont give a guarantee that they'll succeed in getting tickets but that they'll do all they can.

We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.
