Visa Particulars

Hi,

Just wondering about some Chinese Visa info while i'm in Beijing.
Can I change a tourist visa to a 1 year multiple entry business or student visa while I am in Beijing (i'd like to avoid going to Hong Kong)? How much would it cost? Any contact info?

Thanks

check the classifieds section of Thats Beijing, you'll find loads of agencies providing services like the one you need. I've used "Johns Visa Service" (or "Visa Agency") a few times, he's reliable and honest but its not exactly cheap.

its a lot more fun (and can even be cheaper) getting the visa in HK as many travel agents there provide this service at reasonable rates (I think they charge around 800 HKD for a 1 year multiple entry F visa).

Thanks for the reply Hefner.
I have been to HK before and the whole trip can be quite costly. A return trip on the train (or plane) plus food and accomodation plus the cost of sitting in a bar in HK for 1 or 2 days waiting for a visa.
How much did John charge you? Is it possible to change a tourist visa to a business or student visa while in beijing?

Thanks again

IIRC, John charged 2500-3000 Yuan (or something like that) for a 6 month F visa, I'm guessing a 12 month F visa would be almost twice that. Its possible to do an HK visa run for less than that: train to shenzhen, bus to HK, get the visa, and then the same route reversed back to BJ. if you apply for the visa in the morning you can get it in the afternoon the next day so if you plan your trip well, you'll only need to spend one night in HK. in the end its likely that you'll have to spend a little bit more going to HK yourself but its a whole lot more fun than just waiting in BJ for the visa.

also, I might point out that this was a few years ago. I dont know if that rates have gone up or down since. regardless, if you decide to use John at least know that he is reliable.

I used John last month, for a 12 month business visa. My residency permit expired, and since my new business is not yet legal in China, I couldn't renew.

John charged me RMB3400. It took just over a week.

I have subsequently found out I could have got it a bit cheaper, but it's done now. Have just been to Australia and back on it, with no hitches.

Cheers, Paul.

yeah, I've used John in the past.

you get the same thing in Hong Kong for much less. (in my case it turned out to be ¥4000 less.

may as well have a holiday in Hong Kong.
