Visa restricitions

Hi All.
I'm planning a trip to SE Asia in June. I start my trip in Bangkok now I know that I have a 30 day visa upon arrival. From there I'll travel to the North of Thailand then into Loas, back into North East Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Southern Thailand, Malaysia.
Recently I've been seeing various threads on Visa restrictions as to how long a person has in Thailand, as it's a major part of my trip I'd appreciate it if some one could clarify that I can actually stay in the country for a total of 90 days.
Cheers Si

Where are you from, Simon?

If UK as I suspect, then you can stay in Thailand for a maximum of 90 days in any 180 day period on the "visa waiver" program (ie. the visa exemption you will receive on arrival in Bangkok, and again when you return to Thailand from neighbouring countries).

There has been some evidence lately that the Thai authorities are increasingly enforcing the long-standing (but up till now usually ignored) rule that in order to enter, you need an onward ticket out of the country within the next 30 days. This has reportedly been occurring at some land borders with Malaysia and Cambodia. So you might want to make sure you have a train/plane/bus ticket out of the country each time you enter, in order to avoid being denied entry. On the other hand, you might be lucky and get in without anyone asking for evidence of onward travel.

Hi Dominic

Thanks for the info,
Do you know which boarders crossings (areas) are imposing these restrictions?
I'll be travelling from June and my outbound flightto Oz is in October, will that be enough evidence for them?
Cheers

If your air ticket is for entering and leaving Thailand over a period greater than 30 days but less than 90 days, you should get a 90 day visa at your local Thai embassy/consulate before you go to Thailand and then get a multiple re-entry permit on your visa once you are in Thailand to allow you to come and go during the 90 day period of your visa.

That's what he should do but the truth of the matter is, most arrivals planning on staying for 90 days or less get by on the 30 day visa exemption system which can be renewed three times before a visa is required. If you get caught out just run to Vientiane and get a 60 day tourist visa at the Royal Thai Embassy. I've personally never known any one refused entry unless they are in breach of the 90 day rule.
