Rather than potentially placing your life in the hands of strangers on a travel forum, I would suggest consulting a doctor, or at the very least perhaps doing a web search on the prevalence of malaria in those areas of Vietnam you will be visiting. Risks may be higher in sparsely populated areas, or places close to borders with Cambodia and Laos.5
Definitely not for Vietnam. It's not the wild frontierland you are probably expecting. Your doctor will tell you otherwise so you dont sue them. There will obviously be a very small risk as you are visiting tropical regions, however not enough of a risk that you need to pump your body with anti malarial chemicals. You are better off taking precautions not to get bitten, ie covering your arms and legs at dawn and dusk, using a mosquito net and repellant than taking a cocktail of chemicals. If you can't beat em, delete em.
