Tour in Tibet, 1500 USD

Hey, I have quoted tours in Tibet. The minimum for one person is 1,500.00 USD, for 6 days. I think it is very expensive. I was thinking on arrive to Lhasa and then there get a hotel or a hostel and then a tour. What do you think about this? I was reading that some hostels, hotels don´t take reservations. I will be there from may 3rd to may 9 (only, unfortunately).
I will really appreciate your help on this.

Regards from México

Or maybe you could ignore the blatant touts... do the moderators for this site actually do anything???

To answer your question- $1,500 from the US sounds pretty decent for a prepackaged tour, but it is usually quite easy to go to Tibet on your own. Thousands, if not tens of thousands, of non-Chinese people do it every year. Getting a hotel/ hostel in Lhasa is usually not difficult, though many might be full at that time of year because of the May Day holiday. There are enough options that you should be able to find something though. Two hotels you can book ahead for are the Dhood Gu and House of Shambhala. Booking ahead should also be possible for Chinese hotels in the western end of the city, though those places are pretty far from most points of interest.
For information on getting into Tibet, read #74 in the FAQ.

For a tour, I can highly reccommend the FIT office at Banak Shol. Think theres 2 FIT offices in the courtyard so go to the one on the left just inside. They speak good English and are very helpful.

What type of trip are you talking about? Is this a two day trip to Namtso or a trip to base camp? What all is included? Are you staying at all the best hotels? The price seems high, but you need to let us know what type of trip you were quoted for.

I also would talk to the FIT office at the Banak Shol hotel.

The tour includes transportation and accomodation in a budget hotel. I think this is an abuse. It is Lhasa, 3 days and one day to Gyantse. It includes also the cost of the permit in Tibet. It seems that also there are no hotels available for those dates. Yak, Kyuchu and Hotel Lhasa doesn´t have any rooms. Can anybody provide the telephone of Banak Shol hotel, please? The price is expensive as it is a tour for one person: me. Thanks.

By the way, the train ticket and permit are around 1164 yuan at Sim's Cozy Guesthouse in Chengdu. it includes food to take away, transportation from lhasa station to hostel, first night at the hostel in dorm, transportation from Sims to chengdu rail station, permit. and of course, train ticket.

buena suerte!

That will be the price ONLY IF Sims can get you hard sleeper, otherwise its a round 1500Y. Send FIT at Banak an email and you'll get a reply within a couple of days. Losang can give you the email address--- I keep getting the numbers wrong!!!
