Jiuzhaigou accomodation - recommendations?

Hi everyone,

I'll be heading to Jiuzhaigou in mid-May and expect to spend a night there after travelling by bus from Chengdu.

Did a search on the branch but didn't see anything about accomodation there.
Does anyone have any place to recommend?
budget would be 30-50RMB, fine with dorms/hostels.

Any advice or trip reports would be much appreciated.

thanks!

cheers,
felicia

Hey felicia,

A lot of backpackers tend to pay the locals INSIDE the jiuzhaigou park and just stay at their place overnight (the cheapest i heard was about 15 RMB per night, but that was 3 yrs ago). However, I know the government is trying to crack down on that. It might be harder to do that now, but it's china, i'm sure you'll be able to get away if you just act like u don't know anything about it. When I went, I joined the tour with one of the company in Chengdu. The price is much lower if you go with the tour (i am cheap :P). The locals are usually pretty nice, sometimes you can even negotiate for a meal. Hope that helps, cheers!

Suggest you stay in the town of Zhangzhazhen, which is 5 minutes ride to the Jiuzhaigou Park. It will offer you more choices of dining and walking around at night.

When arriving Zhangzhazhen, it sees legions of colorful Tibetan hostels along the riverside, Y25/bed or Y50/Rm,shared bath room and Chinese toilet. Standard hotel is Y60~Y100/Rm with attached bath room.

Tips:
1. Don't follow any one who tries to guide you to a hotel, some of them are middleman who earn commissions.
2. Some Tibetan villagers inside the Park run hostels sneakily, it's not recommended to stay there, as it limits your choice of fun, unless you want to capture the 6:00am scene of the gully.
3. Avoid the hotels around the parkCas they are usually more expensive. It costs only Y4~6 and 5 minutes for a taxi ride from the town to the gate of Jiuzhaigou Park.

Hello

I'm willing to travel to jiuzhaigou on August 7th to 9th

But i have great difficulties finding a place to stay there
There is not much place that have a site to book online

Salma_luo > Could you give me more details about Zhangzhazhen ? How do i get there from the airport ? How do i get to the scenic area from there ?
Are there so many hostels there ?
The price you give is high season or low season ?

Do you think it's ok to go and just try to find something at zhangzhazhen without booking before ?

Thanks for you answer

#4, Zhangzhazhen is the town that's right outside Jiuzhaigou park. If you stay close enough to the entrance (like us), you could just walk there. There're shuttle buses from Jiuzhaigou airport to Zhangzhazhen, or share a taxi (about 200 RMB/taxi, the rate is posted at the taxi stand) with other travellers.
There're countless places to stay there, whatever price range you want. So just rock up and find a place that you like. It's not the ultra-peak season for Jiuzhaigou. There's also a hostel there.
Cheers!
