Charging your Electronics....

Has anyone tried charging their cellphone/Ipod in during your stay in Thailand with just an adapter plug? I was wondering about bringing my Ipod to help pass the time on long journeys, and wondering if plugging it in to charge it will ruin it since their is no way to change the wattage...Apperciate any feedback on past experiences of others who have tried!! Thanks!

Your ipod/cell phone chargers should be 100-240V. They will work fine in Thailand. The only thing you might need is an adaptor to change the plug style.

All Ipods will be fine. I am not sure about your phone, but it should work fine as well. Bisbee gives good information. You are unlikely to need an adapter. American style plugs can fit into the slots in Thailand most of the time.

One point the other guys missed is that the electricity goes the other way in Thailand to how it does in the US.

Ipod chargers accept voltage 100-240. The flat pronged US style plug can be used in Thailand too. You won't need any adaptor - just plug it in.

Look at the adaptor of your phone charger, it should say 100-240v. If it doesn't, check the user manual.

Not all places accept the US style plug...but easy to get a plug adaptor...they are sold in many, many places...

No that's incorrect. ALL places accept a US style plug when without a third ground pin. Most sockets do not have a third hole.

Then for European style plugs, THOSE usually fit well enough, but not always as well/tight as they could.

British style plugs never fit; Brits would always need an adapter. (Adapter to USA 2 prong style)

It is similar to the way water goes down a plug hole, clockwise or anti-clockwise depending on your geographic location. It stands to reason that the US being on the other side of the earth and looking at the magnetic flux patterns flowing north to south, you get the same sort of disruption to electrical direction causing it to go in the opposite direction. Look it up in Wiki if you doubt me.

Well, I wouldn't put all the faith in the world in wikipedia. I contains volumes of poor information about things. That is the nature of the site. As far as the way water goes down a drain or whatever, the difference you mention is a partial truth. What is important about the flow is which side of the equator you are on. Both Thailand and the US are on the north side of the equator; therefore; water will flow down a drain in the same manner. Why would electricity go backwards, but not water? It was a nice try, but it seems to be a flawed theory =)

Water is affected because of the way the earth is spinning around the equator hence the NS relationship, electricity is affected by the lines of magnetism actually running north/south hence you get the the opposite affects on the other side of the earth. So in Thailand it is not AC-DC it is DC-AC. I think you can also find that out if you ask in some of the better electrical stores.

Perhaps I stand corrected =) Final exams coming soon =( Ahhhhh no worries, 22 days until touchdown for almost 4 months in LOS =) If I remember, I will look into it then. Hope all is well on KPN. I may be stopping by soon!
