Gyantse Horse Racing Festival

Have read that the festival will be held from the 30th May for 4 days. Can anyone confirm this? Also is this one of the biggest horse racing festivals in Tibet? How popular is this festival and is it difficult to organise hotels during this period? I am planning to be here for a couple of days during this period but have found information scarce. Losang, have you experienced any of these festivals? Your insight would be appreciated.

The Gyantse horse festival is large, but the horse festivals in Litang, Jyekundo and Nagchu are much, much larger. If this is the only time you have to go to Tibet then I would recommend going to the Gyantse horse festival. The horse festivals in the other 3 places are much more fun than Gyantse though.

Losang and Jessie, thanks for your replies. Time is limited so will have to do with the Gyantse festival. Seems like I will have a wonderful experience all the same.

hi all,

regarding the Gyantse Horse Racing, since it is from May 30 - June 3, is there any specific day where it is the best to visit? ie. when the celebration reaching its peak? since i probably have just 1 or 2 days to visit Gyantse, i thought it will be more worthwhile to visit it at its best.
