Best $100ish accomodation in Beijing?

Hi - will be travelling to Beijing on May 14-18 and having trouble finding great accomodation. We would love to stay in a historic, courtyard hotel, but so far they've all come back fully booked for the period. Barring coming across an unknown one, I guess we'll have to go the bigger, modern hotel route. So far, my LP book has not given me much to go on, and there's not much info out there on hotels other than the huge Western chains.

We are looking for a very clean, comfortable, quiet hotel with as much charm as possible. We are a group, so we have hired a private car and guide for alot of the trip, so being super close to sights or public transit is not of utmost importance, but it would be nice to be able to walk to areas for dinner at night or to Tiananmen Square or Wangfujing. Don't need a gym or huge lobby, just nice, English-speaking staff that can help us get around a bit. Decent breakfast at the hotel is a plus.

What's your pick for the best hotel in the roughly $100-$125 per night range? Advice appreciated!

I would recommend the Novotel Peace (not a standard room in the annex but a room in the main building; I can't say it has charm though) Go to tripadvisor.com and go through the reviews. I believe Ellyse has been recommending Tang Yue and Hotel Kapok lately which are in the Wangfujing area.

I've just stayed in the Hao Yuan Hotel. When I first booked they said they were busy and although I could stay 3 nights, I'd have to change rooms. When I got there, it was half empty so maybe quite a few had cancelled. Therefore, perhaps try the smaller hotels again and see if they have rooms.
