Agents in Lanzhou or Golmud

I was looking to travel from Kashgar/Urumqi back to Lhasa either via Golmud or Lanzhou. Does anyone know any agents in either of these places that can book train tickets and organize permits?

I am planning to cross to Nepal and then India to be in India by a certain date, so i really need to pre-book the tickets.

Thanks.

lanzhou has heaps of agents. try the big hotels.
golmud only has the cits in the golmud binguan.
xining is another option, but i cant tell you where the agents are sorry.

Golmud is famous for charging extremely high prices to foreigners going to Lhasa.

true, golmud is terrible for permits/transport. but these days is easy to just grab a bus to lhasa without a permit. discreetly ask a tibetan driver.

An agent in Xining has been recommended before on this branch so you might want to try searching for the relevant information. #2 has a good point there.
Cheers!

#3...95% of the bus drivers from Golmud to Lhasa are not Tibetan. Most of them are Salar (a Muslim people group found in Qinghai).

true enough. but tibetan drivers, who seem to know all about foreigners dodging permits, are not hard to find. most of the time they will approach westerners exiting the train station.
ive also been approached by tibetan drivers (truck and bus) in xining.

its pretty easy to tell the difference between salars and tibetans. especially when one asks if in doubt. for all i know, salar drivers are as accomodating as tibetan drivers.
