Chinese Visa after travelling Nepal to Tibet

We plan to travel from Kathmandu to Lhasa overland in early July, we will probably go with one of the organised groups.

Getting a permit/visa for the TAR seems to be pretty easy, but we then want to go on into China, in total we will be in China for about a month.

The tour group tells me we should get visa extensions at our first stop in China (after Tibet), but that easy for him to say from Kathmandu.

Has anyone done this recently?

Simon

Get to Kathmandu before ALL the old buildings are gone!

Where would your first stop after Tibet be? It's usually not too easy to get these extended in some places.
Cheers!
