Conflicting info: PVG to Yangzhou

My husband and I are leaving in 2 wks to visit our daughter in Yangzhou. We fly into PVG and are finding conflicting info on whether or not there is a direct bus from PVG to Yangzhou. She tells us "I don't know how you and Dad will make it by yourselves in China" Hah! Makes us laugh, but on the other hand ... Anyone have any suggestions for us?

I believe that the only long distance buses from PVG are to Hangzhou, Qing TianKun Shan, Suzhou, Wuxi, Zhangjiagang and Nanjing. But I could be wrong - I do know that you can get long distance buses to Yangzhou at the Xujiahui Long Distance bus station.

I would love for my parents to visit me in China, but I have to tell you I would have the same apprehensions as your daughter! I guess I forget that I survived being new in China, and how resourceful parents can be. :)

Have a great trip!

i dont think there is a pvg- yangzhou bus. you can take the long distance bus from hengfeng bus station (right by the train station). buy your tickets inside, then a security guard will make sure you go the the right floor of the bus station for the four hour bus ride. bring snacks and some water (but dont drink too much, they wont stop).

you can negotiate with the taxi driver for a cheaper fare if you want. but dont let them overcharge you.
the ride on meter will cost an estimated 150-160 rmb from pvg to the bus station.

there is also a combo ticket for he garden, ge garden, and slender west lake that costs 110 rmb (save 30)

bring an extra memory card for you camera just to take video of people driving in the streets. we had to slam on the brakes to avoid a bike in yangzhou, and i love how the city buses cut each other off.

enjoy

the easiest option might be the train for you guys; cab to the train station, train to yangzhou. the train takes an hour or so longer, but it has an english-speaking counter, and soft seats are a bit more comfortable.

Suggestion:

Make sure you have the Chinese Characters describing your destination Yang zhou, (and in which Province).

For a momemt I was wondering if you were heading to Yangzhou, Hangzhou, Yongzhou or even Yangshuo. Also there are many ways of saying 'Yang' in Chinese.
Perhaps that is why you are getting conflicting info.

**************

I once asked for a bus ticket to Wuzhou from Yangshuo (near Guilin).
I wrote the words W U Z H O U showed it the English speaking bus ticket seller and said 'wuzhou', simple?
Not so.

The English speaking bus station staff was very helpful, 'mouthing' the words Wu zhou with different combinations of 'Wu' and zhou all different tones.
I could not understand what she was trying to tell me.

I said 'Wuzhou' again and she shock her head and pointed to her imaginery moustache.

Soon other bus ticket sellers and staff joined in the discussion, I think it was about where I was going!
They were loud.

Finally I took out my LP guidebook and pointed to the Chinese characters corresponding to "the Wuzhou" I was hoping to reach the next day.

Suddenly a collective sigh of relief, smiles all round and a bus ticket issued.

"It don't matter to me."

Ok as far as I know, I can confirm that there're no direct long-distance buses from Shanghai to Yangzhou. Getting a bus from Pudong airport (PVG) to Nanjing would be the best option if possible.
What time is your flight arriving?
PM me with your details and etc if you want me to tell you what the best option would be. :)
Cheers!
