Shanghai-Beijing-Shanghai may holiday AAAAA

I teach in Shanghai. During the May holiday I have friends coming to visit who also want to go to Beijing. When is the earliest we can buy train tickets? Are we going to be stranded in Beijing and not make it back in time for work the day after the May holiday?

Any advice would be helpful on buying tickets either way.

Thanks.
Gloria

If you're referring to Z train tickets, then those go on sale 20 days before departure date. I think you should be able to buy your return tickets in Shanghai as well.
Cheers!

Usually you cant buy them until at least one month in advance. Get them at the train station and save money on the 40 RMB Per ticket commissions that hotels and agents charge.

They don't sell any train tickets 1 month in advance, #2.
Cheers!

I think they sell the train tickets 5 days ahead of the schedul.
why not by air, over 20 flights do this route, and the fare is cheap enought.

besi, wrong again, ellyse, right again, yidongzhu- good idea. Even if yoiu can get tickets at this time, you may have to buy off scalpers.

OP, Beijing is a nightmare during that first week of May.
