Dalian and Dandong Accommodation

Hi all, travelling with two kids (independant, adventurous travellers) based in Dalian (I am teaching) for 5 weeks. Looking to do weekend trips away and need info on safe, clean, cheap places to stay. Hostels are great as long as they are all of the above. Also anyone based in Dalian who wouldn't mind making contact, greatly appreciated.

Huh, if you're teaching in Dalian, you wouldn't need to be looking for accommodation there... would you?
Cheers!

If you're interested in history, and could afford an overnight trip, Shenyang would be an excellent destination.
Closer to home, try and see if you could wangle your way to Lvshun (Port Arthur).
Cheers!

In Dandong we stayed at the hotel right in the train station. It's to the left as you exit on to the big square with a huge Mao statue in a big tower. It was fine I think as I actually recall nothing about the hotel.
