Money Transfer in Tibet

Hey again, does anybody know how available are money transfers from other countries into Tibet? Can somebody actually transfer money via Western Union to Bank of China in Lhasa or Shigatse? Also can somebody give me any clues as to transportation options from Darchen to Ali? Are there any buses, is it hard to catch the ride with somebody else? Thank you,

Anout money transfer....

You can have your money transfered to Lhasa into Chinese Yuan.
First, face to the Potala Palace at the right hand side(east end) is a big road, follow the road to the south and you will find "Bank of China"
You can change your USD to Yuan, accept the Western Union transfer or get your own bank account and accept foreign money transfer (all into Chinese Yuan). :)

Why don't you simply take a bank debit card and withdraw cash in neat Y100 notes from the seveal Banks of China in Lhasa? Much easier..and I suggest you get used to carrying cash, and quite a lot of it! No banks out west, except at Ali-Shiqanhe, which is otherwise a very strange place.

Transport to west Tibet - you need a permit which only comes with a 4wd tour, so the Antelope bus is probably out...but I have no information more recent than last June so who knows? I did meet some Eurofreaks out west who hitched out in trucks; if you want to spend your time worrying about avoiding the PSB this is the way to go ;-)

I don't want to use the debit card since my bank (Bank of Hawaii) charges a lot, plus they (Bank of China) get a percentage on their side for withdraws. Thank you for the information about the bus, is there anyone who can confirm it? Is there really a bus to Ali, is there anyone who managed to buy a ticket recently (past 5-6 months)? Thank you,
