Cheap accomodation in Beijing

We're heading to Beijing late May and are looking for accomodation around the $30 mark - something clean and safe, not too fussed otherwise. I've been looking at the Lishi hotel - has anyone stayed there recently? Or does anyone have any other suggestions? Any help much appreciated! Cheers.

I presume you're looking for a twin with ensuite? My recommendation would be the Tang Yue Hotel, not far from the east gate of Forbidden City. Newly opened late last year, funky decor, pleasant service, nice and clean.
Cheers!

Hi, #1. Is there a website or other info for the Tang Yue Hotel?

You answered my question in a Shanghai thread a month or two ago. I've been away but not to China yet.

Nope, I don't know if Tang Yue has a website, sorry. But if you need to know anything email me directly.
Cheers!

I just found them on the all-hotls.com website, and they listed about $47 a night for the two of us. That's a little higher than we were looking for.

I meant all-hotels.com and $48. (It's late.)

When I stayed there, the most expensive was only 238 RMB/night. You don't mention when you're staying so I don't know what the prices would be like then.
Cheers!

It would be 6 nights starting the night of May 21. There's 2 of us, though, so that may be why it's higher?

Hmmm, in that case how about trying Minfu Hotel near the Yonghegong Lamasery and the metro stop of the same name? From previous experience it was 188 RMB/night for a twin with ensuite.
Cheers!

We stayed at the Fang Yuan Hotel for six nights last month. We can highly recommend it. It's not a backpacker's special, but if you can afford $35 a night for a large room with private bath, and a great location, this is good. Might be better deals out there nearby, dunno, but we would stay here again with no problem. a buffet breakfast (of sorts) in the morning, too.
