Booking train Beijing to Lhasa

I am looking at travelling in mid April from Beijing to Lhasa by train. I want to pre-book the ticket as i have heard it is quite busy.

I tried chinatripadvisor, but the following message appears: "Sorry, we cannot book the tickets to Tibet at the moment because the train is too popular. Hardly any tickets are there left for individual tourists."

Is there somewhere else that I can try and book this train ticket, Or are the trains really that booked up? I would also like to book some budget-moderate accomodation in Lhasa. I am currently in Sydney, Australia.

Thanks

You could try dropping these guys an email.

They're based in Chengdu but they seem to come highly recommended (I'm researching the Chengdu-Lhasa train myself, and many people have recommended them). They speak English and seem to be able to book you a ticket as long as you send them a deposit. If the Beijing-Lhasa train is too popular, then maybe you could try getting on at Chengdu instead.

Nonsense, train tickets only go on sale a max of 11 days before departure, I believe. Z trains go on sale 20 days before, but none of the trains to Tibet are Z trains.
If you're starting in Beijing, contact Leo's Hostel for them to help with tickets and paperwork.
Cheers!

Agree with Ellyse...Leo Hostel in Beijing will be able to arrange everything for you. China Trip Advisor is expensive anyway. I would not recommend them unless you had no other options.

Seems like they haven't updated their site since tickets first went on sale last year.

Leo's doesn't even sell them until 15 days before departure.
