Chengdu, Chengdu, what to do?

I have two friends from South Africa planning to travel in Chengdu during April. As I have been living in China for the past 2 years, they jumped on me for advise and suggestions and so on. However, I have never had the chance to visit Chengdu (yes, I know), and this is one of their major headaches on the trip as they would be doing this part without a organized tour group. They have sent me a vast array of questions to which I unfortunately do not have the answers. Please if anyone can help with any of these questions, I would be very much obliged :

1. We (myself and 2 friends) can only find one flight from Lijiang to Chengdu on the 21st at 22:00. Is there not an earlier flight and what is the cost.
2. Accomodation in Chengdu for the 21st and 22nd and 25th - we do not want to spend alot of money on a fancy hotel
3. The we have want to go to Juizhaigou for the 23rd to the 25th. We can either book our flights there ourselves and accomodation (do it on our own) or do a tour. We would like to find out the prices of both options in order to decide.
4. Do it on our own. I struggle to find flights flom Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou - the only one we can find out about is again Air China. Seems expensive. Apparently there is a whole bunch of airlines that fly there:
Air China,
Sichuan Airline,
Southern Airline and
Eastern Airline

We want to fly early in the morning so that we can spend the day in the park.
Please could you find me some prices and times. Maybe they give discount for 3 people?
5. We want to fly back late the afternoon of the 25th or early evening.
6. CAn you also please get me some prices on tours there for the times above. I have found out about one tour - they fly in and out. But the day they fly it is a bit later and therefore they do not allow the tourists time in the park. So it is a waste of a day.
7. The tours include the tickets for the parks? Apperantly it is quite expensive - but a ticket for one day or two days in Jiuzhaigou is the same? Is that true?
8. I have read that one may be able to sleep in the tibettan village in the park. Apparently not allowed but very possible. What is the chanses of doing that and around what is the cost?

As you can see they are trying to be rather clinical about this, which I do not understand. But please again if you can offer any help, I would appreciate it greatly.

Thanks

1, the earlier flight is much earlier 00:40 (yes), arrive ChengDu at 02:00, RMB530.
2, there are quite few hostels in ChengDu. you can check out by searching yha or hostelworld for options.
3, you can go for www.ctrip.com or www.elong.net for the tickets from chengdu to jiuzhaigou. seems the cheapest one is 780 one way.

1) There're only 3 flights on 21/4 for Lijiang -- Chengdu. Full price for each is 880 RMB + 130 RMB tax.
3U 8694 (0040--0200)
CA 4452 (2210--2320)
CA 4280 (2220--2340)
You should also consider flying Lijiang -- Kunming and then Kunming -- Chengdu, as there're many flights to choose from for these routes, much more flexible.
2) If you're not going for a hostel, I could highly recommend Flowers Hotel on Qintai Lu. A room with a double bed + single bed would cost 238 RMB inclusive of a basic buffet breakfast for all, discounted booking price. My friends and I stayed there in Oct 2006 and liked it. Clean, comfortable and conveniently located.
3) Whatever you do, do NOT take a tour to Jiuzhaigou. There've been many bad reports in the Chinese media about these tour groups. The prices for those tour groups look very low but you really get what you pay for -- or actually, less. Buyer beware.
4) Flights available on Sichuan Airlines, China Eastern and Air China. I would recommend flying Sichuan Airlines (0640--0725) on 23/4 and again the same airline (2150--2240) on 25/4. Current price each way is 780 RMB + 100 RMB tax. No discount for only 3 people!
7) Yes, the ticket for Jiuzhaigou allows entry on the following if you get your mugshot printed on the back, done for free when you buy the ticket.
Cheers!
