Visa expiry

One final question before I leave for my trip to China . I have a double entry visa for China...30 days each time. I will be travelling to Tibet within 15 days of entering China , spend around 10 days in Tibet and then take the train to Lanzhou.. Once I leave Lhasa does it mean I am re entering China ? And then does my second entry come into effect? The Chinese consulate here in Mumbai was not able to answer this question here. Said to check it out in Chengdu. Because if I am still on the first entry visa, I might have to ask for an extension, as I will be staying for a total of 40 days in China.

No, going to Lhasa doesn't count as leaving mainland China. You'll have to do an extension someday.
Cheers!

Agree...Tibet is completely China to the Chinese government.

Aiya, read a history book la! Or look at a map! Tibet is not an independent country, it is a province of China.

If you are staying for 40 days and your visa is for 30 days. You can extend your visa while in China. However, the extension is not an extension. It is a new visa so your old visa will be canceled and you no longer have a second entry. Going to Tibet is not leaving the PRC but should you go to HK, you will require a new entry to the mainland.

A history book will show that Tibet once occupied much of China, now it is the other way.

  1. 1 ,2,and 4 thank you so much for your replies. It makes things clear now. Because Hong Kong and Macau need different visas, I thought the same would apply to Tibet. But I guess not.

    # 3... a more polite answer would have been appreciated. But then it takes all kinds to make the world!!. Please understand that not all tourists read up history books on the country they visit. And if this erks you, do not answer posts put up by confused travellers. I thought TT was meant to help such travellers such as me... and it truely has..
