Diamox (altitude sickness medication) in Chengdu?

Hi all,

We are currently in Chengdu and catching the train to Lhasa tomorrow evening (22nd of Feb). Does anyone know ANYWHERE we can buy Diamox in Chengdu? We have tried several pharmacies around our hostel (Sims Cozy) and we are being met with blank looks at every place... We will have time to go and buy it tomorrow if there is anywhere that will sell it!

I'm anxious about going from such a low altitude to Lhasa without any medication, and would be very grateful if anyone can suggest somewhere and/or its name in Chinese that may help us out!

Thanks very much in advance :-)

Hi Jules and Dave,

Ask the owner(mix) of Mix Hostel, last time he took me to a public hospital, i forgot which one, bought this medicine. I just can remeber that hospital is not far from Mix Hostel.

Mix Hostel's phone number: 028-83222271

I bought Diamox in Global Doctors clinic . It is in Chengdu. You can verify the phone number in the LP guide book aor you can ask at the information desk in your hostel. Global Doctors is the name of the clinic and the doctors there are English speaking and come from all over the world.
However, you should use Diamox only when you feel bad. There are many local pharmacies in Lhasa selling other medicines beside Diamox which don't have side effects and can be used to prevent the sickness.

Thanks everyone.

We did go to the nearest hospital to us and were able to get the medication easily! Would never have tried hospitals if they hadn't been recommended to us, so thank you :-)
