Mt Kailash to Kathmandu

Hi,

I'm planning on doing the Mt Kailash kora at the end of May. I'll be doing the whole 4WD thing from Lhasa and I have most of the itinerary Lhasa-Mt Kailash sorted, but after the kora I would need to get to Kathmandu as quickly as possible. What do you think is the quickest I could get there, realistically? 2 days maybe?

Thank you very much.

Hi. I'm also planning on doing the Mt Kailash Kora at the end of May. Can I ask who you plan on taking your 4WD tour with, how much it wil cost and what (roughly) is your itinerary? I would also be interested how quick you can get to Kathmandu after the Kora.

Thanks.

I'm still not sure who I'm doing the tour with, I sent out a couple of emails to have an idea of the prices and so far I got one reply from Tibet Chamdo Travel. They quoted USD1,960 for the following trip:

Day 01: Lhasa to Gyantse via lake Yamdrok, hotel.
Day 02: Gyantse to Shigatse, hotel.
Day 03: Shigatse to Sangsang, to drive 6 hrs, camp.
Day 04: Sangsang to Drongba, guest house.
Day 05: Drongba to Payang, guest house
Day 06: Payang to Dharchen, guest house.
Day 7-9: Walk around Mt Kailash, overnight at guest houses of monasteries.
Day 10: Dharchen to Lake Manasarovar and then to Paryang, guest house.
Day 11: Paryang to Saga, guest house.
Day 12: Saga to Nyalam, guest house.
Day 13: Down to Friendship bridge and exit from Tibet.

I wanted to start the kora on Saga Dawa (31/05). But I'm thinking of actually finishing it that day and check out the festival before leaving Mt Kailash (I know it's normally done the other way around but I need to be in Kathmandu before the 5th of June). The price quoted includes car with a guide, yaks around Mt Kailash for luggage and permits only (no accommodation, etc.)

It's me and my husband so far, so we'll be looking at getting two more people. Let me know how you go.
