Kathmandu - Lhasa - Kathmandu by plane

Kathmandu - Lhasa - Kathmandu by plane

Hi everybody.

What would be the reasonable price for return flight Kathmandu - Lhasa - Kathmandu if we shop around in Kathmandu for that? I made several enquiries by e-mail and some Kathmandu agencies came back with 616 USD per person return for this route, which just sounds like a rediculuosly huge amount of money for two 1hour flights :-( In Europe you can buy things like that for 25 Euros if you shop around...

Earlier on this forum someone said barganing is a 'must' when dealing with Kathmandu travel agencies, but till what (lower) price is it actually possible? I heard that all (regular) flights on this route are operated by China Airlines and their sale price for the agencies is about 160 USD for the same thing....

Would be grateful for any tips :-)

oh, yes, me and my partner fishing just for flight (+ separately Chinese visa/Tibetan permit) - in other words, no packages, no other groups, etc.

Thaks a lot.

2 people can constitute a group.
As for the airfares, its not Europe where you have a wide choice of airlines. If more than one travel agency quoted the same price, have you thought thats maybe market rate??

Even though it is less than an hour flight, going between Kathmandu and Lhasa by air is not cheap. It definitely won't be 25 Euros. You should be able to find a roundtrip ticket for around $450 USD or so.

no, i would not have actually thought it is a market price, i have thought this is what agencies want it to be a market price.... this is prety much the same all over the world, never mind what you buy - guided tour around Rome, trinkets in Sharm El Scheih or flight Kathmandu-Lhasa... 450 usd pp return quoted by Losang is something I would think would be at least reasonable, but for 2 people it already makes difference in half thousand USD.... :-)) For these money in Nepal you can built 1/4 of the whole school :-))

Just be glad you're not flying Thai Airways Kathmandu-- Bangkok return, then. Sometimes we just have to bite the bullet and pay if thats the way we want to go.
