Another passport/visa question...

I never thought I would be asking one of these but here goes...somehow the expiration date of my American passport has crept up on me and it expires this September 7. I am planning a trip to China in February, next month, and have a double entry visa which expires June 11, IOW, I have to enter China by that date. My question is, does the fact that I will be traveling within the 6 month expiration date of my passport have any bearing on being admitted to the PRC or on the return to the USA? I've done some Google research and I can't find anything that says it's a problem for China (France, e.g., apparently forbids entry to anyone within the 6 month timeframe) and that may be because China's visa timeframes are so tightly managed, 30 days at a crack etc. Anyway, anyone who can shed any light on this would be very appreciated. Thanks.

On the return to USA , no. I am surprised the Chinese gave you the visa. Acc. to LP China: your passport needs to be valid 6 months after the expriation of the visa.

Feb is this month.

This is a tough call. It is possible that the airlines might not let you board the plane because they are responsible for returning you to the US if you are not permitted to enter China.

The issue is admission to China, not return to the US. Your US passport will still be valid as far as the US is concerned.
