Hong Kong to Shenzhen airport

Hi,

Can anybody please let me know how long it takes to get from Hong Kong Island to the airport at Shenzhen? And any costs if known. Also is there any airport departure tax from this airport.
My guidebook is at a loss on this one.

Thank you for your help,

Tortoisebob

I think it took me about 2.5 hours, going to Shekou by ferry and then by bus.

However there may be a direct ferry to the sirport.

There's a direct ferry from Hong Kong airport, but I don't think there's one from Hong Kong island itself.

Yep, 2 - 2.5 hours by the route #1 describes. Cost is about Y120 for the ferry, and Y10 (?) for the bus.

It would be a little quicker (and cheaper) to take the train to the Luo Hu border and then get a bus, though.

Everything in moderation, even moderation.

There are some frequent buses from Wanchai to the Shenzhen airport, it takes about 2.5 hours if you are lucky, but it can take up to 4 hours (they actually wait for more passengers to come at Huanggang...), so give yourself more time.

Please contact : (852) 2590 0782

Departure time: every 20 minutes from 7:00 to 19:00

I think taking the KCR train is the most reliable, and possibly most economical. I've done it twice, catching the train out of Kowloon. the MTR connects directly with the KCR, and the KCR is inexpensive and has a regular schedule. You can also use your Octopus card on the KCR for those who are familair with that (highly recommended and available at the HKG airport) It costs maybe $4 USD to ride from Kowloon (TST) to Shenzhen and takes about an hour on the KCR. Then you cross customs which may take 30 min. or so. You enter right into a large terminal of shops, taxis, buses, etc...
Find the taxis and go to the airport from there, costs about $10 USD cab ride, which takes about 40 min. Get a receipt from the cabbie upon payment, as I had one claim I did not pay him when I got to the airport, but I simply showed the security people my receipts he gave me, and they got rid of him. It was a bit of a scene, but added some excitement to the trip. Sort of a weird welcoming to the mainland, and preparation for the organized chaos that mainland presents to visitors.
No airport tax that I can remember. All was included in price of ticket. Definitely arrive at the airport early.

I also recommend getting some RMB while in HKG, and not waiting until Shenzhen to get local currency. It is much easier to do in HKG.

You can also take a minibus from bus station at Luohu, leaving every 15-20 minutes.

I think it's about $100-$150 HKD, there are buses from HK to Shenzhen airport. Also there's ferry directly to the Airport's shore from HK.

Beware of RMB, there are many fake notes and Guangdong is worst region.

out of all of the above, the best option is the direct ferry.
