actually it is legal to work on an F visa, at least the last time I asked/checked. BUT you're only supposed to do it a couple of hours / week and it certainly cant be your main occupation.4
The school I was working at told me they couldn't get me a working visa as I don't have a degree though i was teaching there 6 weeks before they said this so I left when my tourist vosa expired.
