Mountain Bike parts - buy cheap in China??

Hi,

Could anyone advise whether you can buy good quality mountain bike equipment in China (esp. Beijing?)

I would be looking to buy reletavly small items such as xtr f/r mech, shifters and a rear coil shock.... I ask as I know much of these parts are made in this region.

If there is a good market for this, I might be tempted to buy a frame and take it home - has anyone ever done this? I've heard about 'making it look older' with mud etc to avoid customs duty in the UK - is it true that it is offically 'used' after six months, even if purchased abroad???

Thanks!!

I suggest that you ask this question on the "On Your Bike" branch. Several people on there have been to or live in China.

I believe that you can buy good quality equipment in China, at Giant stores. Don't expect the price to be a bargain, though.

!! Be warned that "students" who want to practice English with you may actually be scammers. In Shanghai they try the Tea Ceremony Scam. In Beijing it's the Art Student Scam. Be very wary if a stranger wants to speak English with you, especially if you are in a tourist area. !!
