Obtaining a same day Chinese visa in London

I need to go to the Chinese consulate in London in order to get my visa issued on the same day. I was wondering if anybody has had any experience of doing this themselves?

I know that their website says that the visa section opens at 09:00, and that applications must be submitted before 11:00. Does anybody know if turning up at 09:00 is sufficient, or if I really need to start queuing at about 7:00 in order to get my application submitted before 11:00 (as with some consulates).

Any general info or tips from anyone who has had to do this themselves would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

it does get pretty busy, but i think 8.30 would put you near the head of the queue...

i seem to remember generally queuing longer to pick up my passport than drop it off :s

I have used the Chinese Embassy in London several times to get a visa and it gets really busy - doing it by yourself is no problem, but I would get there as early as you can just to make sure, certainly before 9. Don't forget Chinese New year in imminent and the embassy will be closed for a while so check the website.

Also last time I requested a tourist visa (November 2006) I was automatically given a 90 day one - first time ever - single entry by way. Could be because I am visiting family but not sure, I ticked this box but they didn't ask for any proof.
