road trip mexico-belize-gwatemala bck

Hi guys, I'm planning a road trip with my sis and a friend starting from mexico city. We will hav a car and 14 days to make it real. I would like to go in the direction to Cancun /Playa del Carmen and then cruise south to Belize and Gwatemala and then back to MexicoC. A friend of mine suggested that 2 weeks is not enough to include Gwatemala in the itinerary as we will be little in rush. HOW U THINK ?? plizzzzzzz some suggestions and what is a must to explore on the way (hav no idea about itinerary yet)

many

Guat the hell, Greg???
First learn to correctly spell the name of your destination. It's a sign of respect. I hope also that you can speak at least a little Spanish. That's also respectful of the nations and their people you wish to visit.

I doubt if you will find any rental company to let you cross the border. Also, you must really love driving and buying gasoline to want to do what would be a 20 hour bus ride from Mexico City. Are you sure this other person coming along is a friend that you want to alienate? What will you do when your sister is no longer talking to you? Think this over.

It is physically doable but you will be driving a lot. Driving in Mexico is a total attention ordeal and driving more than 300-400 miles per day is difficult as night driving is not recommended. Belize and Guatemala will be even harder. Any mechanical problems will cause delays. In short, this would be a better 3-4 week trip or better yet, travel by bus and sleep as you go. Oh yeah, are you insured with Mexican, Belizean, or Guatemalan insurance? In these countries you pay for your damages or wait in jail. That can always add that sweet element of risk! Buena suerte

Greg, I got your PM. I think it is better to answer here so that others can weigh in here. Even if it is not a rental, but a borrowed car you will have, this is a long distance to go, especially because you will be starting from Mexico City. You may like to drive, but that will get old for the others with you. One of you will have lived in Mexico City for quite a while and has presumably seen much of what lies around the Capitol, so it is obvious why you want to go so far.

Maybe you could leave a day or so early and pick them up at the Villahermosa airport. With two weeks and a car, you could all have a great trip in Chiapas and the Yucatan Peninsula area. The Villahermosa area also has items of interest.
