OK, try and not do it during the last week of April and the first week of may. national holidays and the transport routes become a nightmare."A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road" - Henry Ward Beecher

i agree with harry mudd............i and my friend (2 females age 59) put together our own 3+ week trip this past sept and only used assistance of a tour company in china for some side trips to outlaying areas...............ALSO (and most important to us) he got us into an actual excavation pit currently being worked in Xi'an as well as into the basement vaults to see murals that have been removed from a tomb..... the person in china i worked with is Rienself Wei who works for China odessey tours (service@chinaodyssey.cn) this is his email address and i would highly recommend his help............he also put together a yangtze cruise for us as well as an excursion to the great wall, and the prices were very reasonable.5
