Has anybody been to Marcahuasi?Marcahuasi seems like an place that could be interesting to visit not too far from Lima. I would like to go from Lima in the morning, visit the place and stay somewhere for the night and move on to Huancayo the next day if it's possible. Is there any places to stay? I'm not really keep on camping, which I believe is possible. Any information would be appreciated. Cheers.

1I stayed in a cheap place for about 10 soles a night. No idea what it was called. It's a small village, you should be able to wing it and ask on arrival. When I was there (March 2011), camping wasn't possible as by mid-afternoon the visibility became extremely poor due to cloud cover. Temperatures in the town were only a few degrees at night. Camping is possible in summer time (July-October I believe).
The altitude at the plateau is about 4000mtrs. I went up by horseback, a fellow backpacker regretted not having done so and suffered "soroche" quite badly.
It's a serene, remote and beautiful place. I was unlucky with cloudy conditions but that was due to the time of year.

2Marcahuasi you will have to camp in the actual site, but the place you go to in order to hike up is called San Pedro something-something and has literally one hotel. I would highly recommend checking out what the weather is like before doing this. We went from Lima three months ago and it was freeeeeezing. It was also misty rain the whole time so by the time we reached the actual site of Marcahuasi we were soaked, we set up camp, and realized we had to go back that same night otherwise our health would be in serious danger. We talked about going up there several times with Peruvians and though they mentioned it was cold they lent up big blankets and sold us rum saying it would be okay. They´re tough because it was not okay. Or at least not okay enough to actually enjoy any of it!
That being said it is a good hike, and beautiful place, but make sure to go at the right time! Good luck!

3to go to marcahuasi you should take a taxi from lima to choisika at about an hour then take a bus to san pedro de casta (3h driving) and from san pedro you should rent horses to climb until Marcahuasi, no hotel, nothing you have to sleep there but nighs can be cold.
amazing site with strange stone shapes look like being on the moon
a special energy flow there, the legends tells that its a kind of arche like for noe in the bible and that the place is used to regroup couples of animals before great floads due to is location at more than 12.000 feet high
