Christmas/New Years in Colombia - where?Hi all,
I arrive into Bogota, Colombia on the 17th Dec so I will be there (alone) for Christmas and New Years. Just wondering if anyone has any advice as to where might be the nicest place to spend Christmas and New Years? Are there any hostels that stand out as having a good atmosphere around this time of year or is everywhere pretty dead? As I'm travelling alone it would be nice not to spend Christmas Day on my own. New Years I'm not so fussed about, but would be great if there was a party happening somewhere.
I've looked through previous posts, and it seems like Cartagena might be nice for New Years? Anyone have thoughts on Christmas?
Also I'm not sure what the bus situation would be this time of year, whether they shut down or continue on normal timetable?

1I dont know about the hostels but Bogota is a ghost town for christmas. The coast is def. a good place for new years.

2The buses in Colombia do not stop for any holiday, 365 days each year conditions permitting. I've been to Colombia in December, but not actually for Xmas itself. The one place you can't miss that time of the year is Medellin, which has the best Christmas lights display in the entire western hemisphere. I couldn't say about a specific hostel or place to celebrate Christmas day.

4Great thanks everyone, that's really helpful. I might spend a few days in Medellin and have a look at the Christmas lights, then head up to the coast for Christmas/New Years week. Cheers!

I just saw your post while planning my xmas and new years and i'm actually going to be in colombia for christmas and new years too and would prefer not to be alone around that time :)
Whereabouts in australia are you located?
I'm looking to spend christmas in medellin and new years along the coast - cartagena way..
If you fancy some company around that time let me know.

I'm located in Melbourne (well actually Geelong but work in Melb so between both). Since I posted I've decided I will spend Christmas in Santa Marta (23rd-27th, staying at The Dreamer hostel) and New Years in Cartagena (probably stay at Mamallena but not sure yet). That way I don't have to travel much that week and can just relax on the coast :)
I'll be in Medellin from 2nd Jan-5th, then fly to Ecuador.
I'm always up for company! Feel free to PM me if you'd like a have a chat :)

I was going to spend 23rd-27th in Medellin, then New years in cartagena from 27th to 3rd.
I'm located in Melbourne too.
Would be great to chat, just trying to figure out how to message you :)
