travel over land from Eilat (Israel) to Dahab (Egypt) and back.Hi. Thanks for reading!
I will be in Israel in December/January. I would like to travel over land from Eilat (Israel) to Dahab (Egypt) and back. Is this possible? What are the challenges in doing so and how long will it take? Basically I'd like to find some good beaches/diving other than Eliat, so trying to figure out my options. BTW, I have a US passport and a Jewish name.
Thanks for your help. :)

1i have been to Dahab recently and to the best of my knowledge there is no problem getting there from Eilat ,You will be able to get a visa for Sinai at the border , this will allow you to visit the area but not to travel into Egypt proper .and on the return , Israeli visa on arrival as well .You should be able to catch a bus to Dahab , if not a Taxi will cost a little more . As for the Jewish name and American passport i do not think that you will have any problems ,but it is your call .
As for the travel time 3/4 hours ,it's not far . Enjoy Dahab .

3I am afraid my knowledge of Israel is a little out of date , i was last there 45 years ago , things might have changed a little !! but ,Israel is a small country so as a guess Tel aviv / Eilat should take 2/3 hours , it is not that far This will get you to Eilat bus station and from there a local bus to the border at Taba . The visa situation is as i posted before . Although Israel is an expensive country the fare should not brake the bank .This is a very doable little trip ,it should not cost a lot and not take to long but will be very interesting .
