15look devino I personally consider santelmo much safer than candelaria(I have been living 3 years in bsas and almost 2 years in bogota) and as I told u I did everything in candelaria and I didn't like...can I ?can I consider it unsafe?im not the only person is full of reports and reviews of people thinking like me...I personally heard many things about bogota old town and not about santelmo but I can have an opinion considering what I saw....
sorry I lived in several countries in southamerica and learned to not underestimated the people warnings and to check with my eyes......is just my point of view but please don't treat it as absurd bcause it is not...
first time I went to bogota I remember that I check on internet to get some informations and there were discussion as this one......it is bcause there is not certainity(?) about safety in candelaria and believe me bogotanos knows it...so if u can enjoy the cities in anycase good but I think big city is big city....
about medellin as any city on monday-tue-wed there is not so much to do while weekends is a very vibrant city!bogota has more things to do so maybe is better to stay in the capital until wed or reaching medellin with several stops........
I stayed in casa Kiwi in poblado if can be usefull

16I'd definitely spend the extra days in Bogota, not Medellin. There's more to see and do in Bogota in my opinion.
The other option would be to go to Medellin via the Zona Cafetera and spend a day or 2 there instead of in the city.
gabri, in some of your posts, you paint a picture of La Candelaria that is completely different from what the majority of travellers to Candelaria experience (even you will have to agree that the majority of travellers have no problems there), and I simply wanted to balance that out. Nothing else to it. it's absolutely fine if you don't like la candelaria, but that doesn't mean others wouldn't like it.

17If I may introduce in this discusion, what gabri says isn't false
.Im from bogota´and consider candelaria pretty dangerous at night.
People from here knows that and I know many hostels´ owners who are very aware about it because been assaulted several times.
Many tourists get robbed and a couple of years ago some english were violated.
If I can collaborate with some information just ask,

22I also had no problems in Candelaria in January this year. Stayed for a week. Some cool spots to drink,
Medellin is FANTASTIC! the best place in colombia by a million miles. Gorgeous women, aamzing nature, great bars, the cable cars are great but go ALL the way up and over to the national park, the city is phenomenal!
